This is a great idea. It does work very well. Sometimes an especially stubborn bear, or one with a very thick coat will push through the wires. A good way to deal with that is to drape some partially cooked bacon over the wire. Rather than pushing through the wire to get to the dumpster, they will sniff at the bacon or try to eat it directly from the wire with their MUCH more sensitive lips and tounge. Remember they are ONLY there for food. If they associate discomfort with that particular food source, they will discount it and move on. Also, if you don't have it in your budget for the fence set-up, you can try soaking down the dumpsters with amonia. A pump sprayer works well. That will not only mask some of the garbage smell, but it will irritate their mucus membranes and cause them to look elsewhere for a meal.

I like keeping a 5 gallon bucket with a lid in the front left corner of the truck bed, tied in so it doesn't roll around. It gives a good place to throw trash either out working on a job, or when you stop to pick up trash on the side of the road while driving by. The lid keeps it dry and when its full, dump it and start over

Another easy to use program that often comes with MS Office is Visio. Creating plans is very easy using this program. There are templates for basic rooms, HVAC, electrical, Flow Charts and more. You just grab what you need of the templates and drag on to the work area.

If you need to design a new piece of equipment Google's SketchUp is a free program that can do much of the same things you can do with CAD. There is a learning curve to this one but the tutorials are easy to follow and you can master it in a day or two

Hi, I'm Steve Cobb. . My father was a Scoutmaster at the time of my birth so I can say that I've been a scout since I was born.

I worked for Kodak in Rochester, NY for over 27 years and when I got laid off in 1999 I had the chance to redirect my life. So I went to school at Paul Smith's College to get an Assoc. in Outdoor Recreation. Within a week of being there that invisible tattoo on all good scouts foreheads that says Will Volunteer got me on a committee to design a bachelor's program so I decided to stay a bit longer and after finishing both those degrees in 3 yrs I figured that this was way too much fun so went on to earn a MS in Recreation Administration.

After that I managed John Dillon Park, the only fully accessible wilderness park in the country for three years before moving on to be a Camp Ranger of the Girl Scouts in Michigan for a couple of years. Now I'm doing the same job for Camp Wise, a Jewish resident camp outside of Cleveland.

ATTENTION: NE REGION SPRING THAW GATHERING - From Ken Nygard of cradle of Liberty Council

It's time to take a break from winter. Join us at Resica Falls Scout Reservation on Wednesday, April 6th for the Spring Thaw.

Before the spring rush is fully upon us all; join us for a day of fellowship, relaxation and sharing of ideas. It has been a tough winter and with the steep increases in energy, we will have a discussion on what works and doesn't work to help control our utility and fuel costs.

Bring your ideas and come willing to share. Along those lines of thought, we'll leave some time to enjoy one of the east coast's premiere trout streams. Ranger Jack Gilbert raises and stocks award winning trout in the nearly 7 miles of the Bushkill that runs through Resica Falls Scout Reservation.

Arrival: Feel free to arrive on Tuesday afternoon or evening. We have great accommodations with heat, beds with mattresses and showers. You will need a sleeping bag or blanket and sheets and your own towels.

Meals: If arriving on Tuesday, we can suggest a wide variety of local establishments. Breakfast and lunch will be provided on Wednesday.

Registration: Just email Ken Nygard at kanygard@msn.com with your name, council and camp name, and a telephone number. Let us know if you are coming on Tuesday afternoon or evening so we can have your accommodations ready.

Directions: From 1-80, take the u.S. 209 exit north to Marshalls Creek. At Marshalls Creek you'll make right at the light continuing on 209 and then an immediate left at the next light. Follow Route 402 for 6 miles to Resica Falls. If 1-84 is more convenient, simply take the exit for PA Route 402 and head south about 18 scenic miles.

Contacts:
Resica Falls Scout Reservation - 570-223-8312 (office) or Jack Gilbert 610-721-8644 (cell)
OR
Ken Nygard -610-721-8643 (cell) or the email above.

We hope to see you at Resica Falls.

Hi everyone. Here's the basic idea of what your first post should be when you join the Group.

I'm Tim Bongard, Council Ranger for Northeastern Pennsylvania Council (that covers the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton / Honesdale region of PA. I cover Goose Pond Scout Reservation just outside of Hamlin and Camp Acahela in Blakeslee, PA where me and my family live full-time. I've been in Scouting for over 20 years, was a Life Scout in Troop 57 in Roselle, NJ (Union Council, now part of Patriot Path Council). I have 5 kids, 4 girls and a boy, but the oldest are already out on their own, so we have only two teens left in the next - both serve on camp staff here at Acahela.

This website is part of a Professional Leadership Project for a degree in Leadership I'm completing through Grand Canyon University.
