Digital CampMaster
Welcome to the Digital CampMaster at ScoutRangers.Org!
This page should be your first stop when joining t
he group so that you can introduce yourself and make your first posting. This site is a WordPress blog site which means that we can do a lot of different things here like post articles on the kinds of things we do as Rangers and share ideas about how to do those things better. But posting an idea is just the start. This thing is kinda like Facebook on serious amounts of caffeine and steroids. You can comment on articles, comment on comments, dialog, fill in surveys, comment on surveys, post photos, link to other resources and a number of other features. But there is more.
I also belong to a fire apparatus modelers group, many of the guys are also firefighters or members of EMS units and that site has a distinct feel about it – like it’s an on-line firehouse. I’m sorta hoping we can do something like that here where we can create an on-line camp or workshop where we can all drop in from time to time, chew the fat, and enjoy some fellowship that otherwise is hard to find in our line of work.
So, in order to facilitate that, here’s the deal: This Digital CampMaster welcomes you to the site. If this is your first time here, look on the right sidebar and find Meta, then Log In. Click that and when you get the log in screen, click Register. Create your username and enter the e-mail you want associated with the account and send that off to me, the site will respond with a secure password. Once you use those, be sure to go to the user page and fill in all the details about yourself in the User Profile.
Once you have your username and password, be sure to introduce yourself by leaving a comment below. Give us your name, council, the camp (or camps) you care for, a bit of your background, how long a Scouter, if you are an Eagle Scout or if it was a blond, brunette, redhead, or something with horsepower and measured in cubic inches that derailed your youth Scouting career, plus a bit of what you are doing or have done as a professional – you know, the usual stuff. Then come back and watch for other new guys so you can say “hi” as other guys log in or join the group. This page – The Digital CampMaster – acts as the greeting place when you join up.
Another page to visit regularly is ‘Round the Campfire. This page is specifically for just hanging out and general dialog. If the topic of conversation doesn’t fit specifically anywhere else, and is just general in nature – like conversation would be around a campfire, go ahead and put it on the ‘Round the Campfire page. You can even copy a Facebook or Yahoo! Groups posting and put it here as well so you can be sure to get to everyone.
Two more quick things: When you sign in, you can check the New Postings categories to see what has been posted since you were last on the site – look at the sidebar to the right on each page. You can also set your preferences to send you an e-mail when someone has posted to a topic you wrote or to a comment you made – that helps keep the conversation flowing. Finally, hang in there with this. As we all get the hang of this there will be more information on what we can do and how to do it here, so be a participant!
Any questions or concerns, shoot me an e-mail at webmaster@scoutrangers.org .
Later!
